Work moves up a gear on construction of new Roxton Road bridge and link road

Our construction work at Roxton Road will step up next week as we begin construction of a retaining wall on the north side of the A421 – an essential step to support the building of the new Roxton Road bridge and link road, and a new free flowing link between the A421 eastbound carriageway and the A1 northbound carriageway.

From Tuesday 20 to Wednesday 28 February, we'll be constructing the retaining wall using steel sheet piles pushed into the ground. The ground will be pre-drilled before the piles are pushed down using a vibration method and finally driven in to ensure the wall is levelled.

What is a sheet pile retaining wall?

Sheet piling is used to provide temporary or permanent walls within the subsoil. Where restricted space will now allow for temporary works to take place, a sheet pile retaining wall is a cost-effective solution.

The sheet piles are designed to interlock with each other along a designated path to strengthen or reinforce the subsoil for futures loads.

Where is the retaining wall being build?

The new retaining wall will be constructed on the north side of the A421, to the west of Roxton Road bridge.

What to expect?

Our construction team will access the site via our plant crossing entrance on Roxton Road.

Our working hours will be between 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. These activities at times may be noisy, and we would like to apologise in advance for any disturbance.
