National Highways is the government company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England's motorways and major A roads. Our ambition is to ensure our major roads are more dependable, durable and – most importantly – are safe.
Our vision for route strategies
Route strategies are one of the key steps of initial research in the development of the Road Investment Strategy, the rolling programme that sets our future plans for the strategic road network.
Our wider work
In the Road Investment Strategy, we were given funding to improve the surroundings of the strategic road network in a way that supports and protects people and the things we value for quality of life, both now and in the future.
These funds enable us to provide environmental, social and economic benefits to the people, communities and businesses who live and work alongside our strategic road network. We also manage more than 3,200 old railway structures across England, Scotland and Wales.
