The black cat statue is on the move

The cat has been relocated to one our site offices to allow us to step up construction work at Black Cat roundabout

Whenever we’ve had conversations about the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements with local people, the future of the black cat statue always features high on the agenda.

Now that construction is underway, we’ve carefully removed the black cat statue and taken it to one of our site offices where it will be kept safe until we complete the upgrade.

Paul Salmon, our Senior Project Manager on the A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements said:

“To allow us to progress with our construction work at the Black Cat round, earlier today we temporarily rehomed the black cat statue to one our site offices

“We know from speaking to local people the cat has an unfortunate tail with past cat-nappings, but I’m pleased to say this one was undertaken safely by our construction team.

“We’ll be keeping good care of the cat in the time it’s away from the roundabout and will be sharing regular updates on our plans for the cat and how the local community can get involved.”

For safety reason it’s not possible for the public to visit the cat while it resides at our site compound as these are active sites with moving heavy-duty construction machinery

The cat will return to the junction once construction is complete. In the coming months, we’ll be sharing updates on our future plans for the cat and information on how the local community can get involved.

In the meantime, learn more about the history of the Black Cat statue.
