    Ongoing bridge pier work

Bridge pier repair work is ongoing to pier numbers 17 and 18 (see our phase map for more information). We’ve completed the operation to lift the bridge from the two piers. Temporary structures to support the motorway are in place, allowing the repair work to the concrete piers to continue. This phase of work will be ongoing until September 2020.

To carry out the repairs safely, we need to close the footpath/cycleway on the eastern bank of the River Mersey. The closure will be in place from November 2019 until the work is complete. A localised signed pedestrian diversion route will be in place.

Please note that Palatine Road will remain open throughout.

Overview

The M60 is one of the busiest motorways in the North West. These repairs will ensure that motorists continue to experience safe and reliable journeys along this part of the network. The work is taking place below the bridge deck, so traffic will not be affected.

So far, we have completed repairs to two bridge piers with another 13 to complete over the next four years.

To carry out the work safely, we need to close the footpath/ cycleway on the eastern bank of the River Mersey (shown in red on the map). The closure will be in place from September 2019 until the work is complete.

For more information, please see our phase map.
