M62 Gildersome waterproofing

Guy Harrington

Gildersome east bridge at junction 27 needs to be waterproofed in order to maintain the structure and prevent it from deteriorating. Doing this work over the course of a weekend reduces the need to shut the road for longer in future.

Waterproofing bridges protects the concrete from slow damage by rainwater and road salt. As is always the case with this kind of job, it can only go ahead if the weather is dry.

To carry out the work safely, the westbound M62 will be closed overnight between junctions 27 and 28 from Friday 9 August to Monday 12 August. During the daytime two of the four lanes will be closed, with the other two running with a 50mph speed limit.

A second weekend closure will also be needed to complete the work – we’ll confirm the dates as soon as possible.
