M42 junction 7a safety barrier replacement

Theresa Morley

Installation of sections of new safety barriers on the M42 at junction 7a. This work is part of Highways England’s continuing investment in the network.

The replacement of the existing central barrier will help to create safer journeys for all customers. It will also need less maintenance than the existing safety barrier, and so less disruption to traffic in the longer term.

To minimise disruption the work will be carried out overnight Monday to Friday when there are fewer vehicles on the road. During this time, we’ll need to fully close the M42 northbound link road to the M6 southbound carriageway and also close lane 1 of the M42 northbound main carriageway. We’ll also need to put a temporary speed limit of 50mph on the main M42 northbound carriageway. During the day we will keep the link road open but with a reduced speed limit of 40mph through the works area.

Clearly signed diversion routes will be put in place during any necessary closures, which have been agreed with the Solihull County Council.
