Work to ease the congestion at peak times. To do this, we will be installing a dedicated lane from M42 westbound to the A435 southbound. We will also be widening the slip roads and creating an extra lane on sections of the roundabout.
We have identified that junction 3 of the M42 suffers from congestion at peak times. The work will reduce waiting times and ease flow of traffic around the junction. We will also be resurfacing and putting new markings, which will create a smoother surface and safer junction by making the markings more visible.
To carry out the work, we will need to reduce the M42 junction 3 exit slip roads and the well as the roundabout itself to a single lane. We will also need to reduce the A435 approaches to the roundabout to a single lane.
To install the traffic management, we will need to close the slip roads and the roundabout overnight. We will then need a series of night closures in addition to the permanent lane closures to complete the work. We will communicate this by using yellow and black signs by the side of the junction and through a weekly email update to advise of closures for the next week. If you wish to receive this bulletin, please email Area9.email@example.com and advise that you wish to receive the M42 TM Bulletin.
During the work, we will need to reduce the speed limit on the M42 near junction 3 to 50mph and the slip roads to 30mph. This is to ensure the safety of our workforce.
