A64 West Knapton junction improvements

Theresa Morley

We’re improving the layout of five key junctions over a one mile section of the A64 near Knapton. The improvements include:

  • Carriageway widening to create ‘ghost island’ right turns
  • New traffic islands within hatched areas to protect right turners
  • Pedestrian refuge areas to assist with crossing the A64
  • New bus laybys
  • Renewed and upgraded traffic signage and drainage

The work will be carried out in two main phases. Phase one to widen the road will be completed mainly during the day behind a temporary barrier. Some full closures will be required overnight to remove the temporary barrier. A diversion route will be in place via the A169 and A170.

Phase two to construct the islands and resurfacing will require some lane closures overnight between. Temporary traffic lights will be in place.
