A500 – average speed camera installation

Theresa Morley

We’re working to install average speed cameras along the A500 from M6 junction 15 and along the A500 Queensway.

These cameras should help to make the road safer by reducing congestion caused by incidents and smooth out traffic flow. The cameras will be yellow and will have clear signs so that drivers know they are there.

While we’re completing this work we will also carry out other essential maintenance such as resurfacing, road markings and bridge repairs. We’ll need to close sections of the A500 overnight while we carry out this work.

We will use yellow and black signs by the side of the road to notify you of closures and will also send out a weekly email detailing the closures. If you wish to receive these bulletins, then please email Area9.communications@kier.co.uk and advise that you want to be added to the A500 TM Bulletin.

We will begin our work with night-time lane closures on the A500 in both directions between Hanchurch interchange and Hanford interchange. The southbound entry slip form Hanford interchange to the A500 will be closed. These will be in place overnight.

We will then need full closures overnight in both directions of the A500 between Hanchurch interchange and Hanford interchange. We will also need to close the city road to A500 southbound slip to allow us to close the road and redirect traffic safely.

During the full closures, we will put diversion routes in place. There are several different phases of closures and the diversion routes will be different for each of them. They have been agreed by both Stoke City Council and Staffordshire County Council. You can receive these in the bulletins as advised above.
