Progress report

We've completed a feasibility study to establish the case for the junction improvement. The study also sought to confirm the problems and issues within the area of the junction and to consider the options which could address them.

What's next?

We're continuing our investigations and working on options.

Why we need the scheme

The A64 Hopgrove junction consists of a large roundabout with traffic signals. The approach from the south/west is dual carriageway. The route north/east of the roundabout comprises a short length of dual carriageway which then merges into single carriageway. It also connects with the A1237 York outer ring road.

This results in queues and congestion which cause delays and accidents. This scheme proposes to reduce these by improving road standards.

This scheme was identified in the Road Investment Strategy.

The aims of this scheme are to:

  • improve road standards
  • reduce accident and casualty rates
  • reduce conflict with local traffic
  • reduce delays and congestion
  • improve journey time reliability
  • support planned developments
