    Widening the slip roads

We’ll be widening some of the entry and exit slip roads to the roundabout at junction 45 of the M1 and adding an extra lane to the roundabout itself increasing it from 2 to 3 lanes. This will improve capacity at the junction which is a major route in and out of Leeds city centre.

We’ll need to close the road so we can carry out important bridge works, gantry installation and road surfacing.

Project information

Benefits

The M1 is an important north-south link. Junction 45 serves east Leeds and currently suffers from congestion, particularly at peak times. If we don’t act now, this situation will get worse.

The extra capacity will also be needed to support developments planned in this area, particularly along the East Leeds Link Road, which is part of the Aire Valley Enterprise Zone.

With this scheme, we aim to:

  • reduce existing delays
  • open up new areas for development
  • encourage economic growth and job creation
