    Weekend Closure – junctions 3-4

    Work continues to replace the previously demolished East Street Footbridge with a new footbridge, as well as a new pedestrian access ramp on the southern side of the bridge.

    M20 full weekend closure

    There will be a full weekend closure of the M20 in both directions, from Friday 27 November, 8.00pm to Monday 30 November 2020, 6.00am between junctions 3 and 4, including the eastbound M26 which will be closed at junction 2a for the installation of the
    footbridge deck across the M20.

    The M20 will be closed in both directions between junctions 3 and 4. The eastbound M26 will also be closed at junction 2a.

    Friday 27 November, 8.00pm to Monday 30 November 2020, 6.00am.

    Contingency date: Friday 4 December, 8.00pm to Monday 7 December 2020, 6.00am.

    Closures due as work gets under way

    We’ll be starting work on 9 August 2020, with work due to be completed in January 2021. We will be closing lane one on both sides of the M20 for the duration of the project, with a reduced lane widths and a 50mph speed limit in place at all times.

    The M20 London-bound carriageway will be closed between junctions 4 and 3 overnight on Sunday 9 and Monday 10 August from 8pm-6am to put out the traffic management.

    Lane one of the M20 London-bound carriageway will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place from Tuesday 11 August 2020 to end of January 2021.

    The M20 coast-bound carriageway will be closed between junctions 3 and 4 on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October from 8pm -6am to put out traffic management.

    Lane one of the M20 coast-bound carriageway will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place from Thursday 8 October 2020 to end of January 2021.

    We will need to close the M20 in both directions between junctions 3 and 4 for a full weekend to lift the footbridge into place. Dates for this closure are to be confirmed and will be announced in due course.

Overview

Back in August 2016 East Street Foot Bridge over the M20 near Addington was struck by a lorry causing it to collapse. We will be replacing the footbridge to connect to communities.

The aim of the scheme is to improve pedestrian connection.
