M60 between junctions 1 and 2 - concrete carriageway repairs
Significant concrete carriageway repairs are due to take place between junctions 1 and 2 of the M60. Full weekend closures are planned as part of these works. Motorists needing to make essential journeys are advised to check their journey before travel.
Project information
Over the years, we’ve carried out frequent carriageway repairs on the M60 between junctions 1 and 2. Despite this, the carriageway has continued to fail with pot holes and defects regularly forming, so last year we carried out some investigation work. This helped us to understand why the carriageway was failing, the extent of the damaged underneath and what repairs are needed to resolve the problem. We now know that the concrete underneath the carriageway is significantly damaged. Unless the concrete is repaired, the carriageway will continue to break away.
These repairs were originally planned to take place this summer. However, with traffic numbers being much lower than normal during lockdown, we want to take advantage of this to minimise disruption to our customers.
The repairs are essential to ensure we keep the network safe and operational, as well as improving journeys for our customers.
Once the scheme is complete, future carriageway repairs will be significantly reduced and therefore reduce disruption to motorists.
New quieter noise surface will also be used, reducing motorway noise to nearby properties.
