We are planning to carry out essential resurfacing works at the A47 Blofield junction. The work is likely to take around 5 weeks, and we'll be working from 8pm to 6am during weeknights only from 13 September through to 5 November, subject to weather conditions.

The work will be split into 2, as follows:

  • A47 Eastbound between Cucumber Lane Roundabout and Acle Roundabout: starting Monday 13 September to Friday 1 October (3 weeks)
  • A47 Westbound between Acle Roundabout and Cucumber Lane Roundabout: starting Monday 27 September to Friday 15 October (3 weeks)

Diversions:

  • Westbound traffic will be diverted via the A47 to Beccles, onto the A143 until Gillingham, then onto the A146, before re-joining the A47 at Trowse Newton.
  • Eastbound traffic will follow the same diversion route in reverse. 

Blofield diversion route

We are carrying out essential survey work to assess the condition of the road on the A47 between Thorney and Wisbech.

We plan to complete this work over 3 weeks from Monday 4 October to Thursday 21 October between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, subject to weather conditions.

Closures and diversions

We have liaised with the local authority to agree the most suitable dates and diversion routes. We will carry out this work in 3 phases, as follows:

Phase 1: A47 / A1101 Wisbech roundabout to Lynn Road roundabout, Wisbech in both directions - Monday 4 October to Thursday 7 October.

Westbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Hardwick roundabout onto the A10, A1122, A1101 to re-join at Wisbech Roundabout.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Wisbech roundabout onto the A1101 and A17 to re-join at Pullover Roundabout.

Phase 2: A47 Thorney roundabout to Guyhirn roundabout in both directions – Thursday 7 October to Thursday 14 October.

Westbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Guyhirn roundabout onto the A141, A605 and A1139 to re-join the A47 at Thorney.

Eastbound traffic will follow the same route but in reverse.

Phase 3: A47 Guyhirn roundabout to Redmoor Lane roundabout in both directions – Thursday 14 October to Thursday 21 October.

Westbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Wisbech roundabout onto the A1101, A10, A142 and A141 to re- join at Guyhirn.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Guyhirn roundabout onto the A141, A142, A10 to re-join the A47 at Hardwick roundabout.

We’ll be carrying out essential maintenance works on A47 between  Blundeston roundabout to Sparrows Nest near Lowestoft in both directions. 

We plan to complete this work during five nights from Monday 4 October to Saturday 9 October 2021, working between the hours of 8pm to 6am, subject to weather conditions.

Diversions

During the one night while we complete the work on Blundeston Roundabout itself, southbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Rackham’s corner and travel along Gorleston Road to the B1375.

Traffic will travel along Normanston Drive and then the A1144 and rejoin the A47 at Jubilee roundabout.

Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion but in the opposite direction.

Diversion 4 October

During the remaining four nights, southbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Blundeston Roundabout and travel along Millennium Way and Peto Way. Traffic will travel along A1144 and rejoin the A47 at Jubilee Roundabout.

Northbound traffic will follow the same diversion but in the opposite direction. 

Diversion 5-9 October

Access

If your residential or business property will be directly affected by these road closures, we will make every effort to provide escorted access to and from your property. However, there may be a wait of up to 30 minutes to allow newly laid road markings to harden.

We’ll be carrying out essential work to maintain the filter drains between the above locations, westbound only.

We plan to complete this work over 5 nights from Monday 18 October to Friday 22 October on weeknights only, between 8pm and 6am, subject to weather conditions.

Diversions

  • A120 traffic will be diverted off the A120 at Dunmow West Interchange to travel along the B1256 to re-join the A120 at Birchanger Roundabout / M11 Junction 8. 

 

  • Thremhall Avenue traffic wishing to travel westbound on the A120 will travel eastbound to Dunmow West Interchange, B1256 and join A120 westbound at Birchanger Roundabout / M11 junction 8.
    A120 stansted diversion

We’ll be carrying out essential drainage work at the A47 Longwater Interchange, approximately 3km west of Norwich City Centre. The work will take 11 weeks overall, starting from Monday 13 September to Thursday 25 November 2021, subject to weather conditions. We have split the works into phases, and have agreed the most suitable diversion routes for each phase.

Phase 1: Westbound entry and exit slip road closed at Longwater Interchange is complete.

Phase 2: Eastbound exit and entry slip roads closed at Longwater Interchange is complete.

Phase 3: A47 Westbound and Eastbound full road closure between the slip roads at Longwater Interchange.

Completing Monday 25 October, between the hours of 8pm and 6am (18 nights).

When the road is closed eastbound between slip roads, traffic will exit A47 at Longwater Interchange at the exit slip and return via the entry slip road.

Phase 4: A47 Westbound full closures between Watton Road Interchange and Longwater Interchange.

Starting Monday 25 October to Thursday 25 November, weeknights only, between the hours of 8pm and 6am (five weeks).

Westbound traffic will exit the A47 at Watton Road and then travel onto Earlham Road towards Norwich. Traffic will then join Farrow Road, before travelling along Dereham road A1074 and rejoining the A47 at Longwater Interchange.

Phase 4a: Westbound exit slip road will be closed from 8pm on Friday 19 November through to 6am on Monday 22 November (a 2-day weekend closure).

When the westbound exit slip road is closed, traffic will travel along the A47 to Dereham road roundabout and return eastbound to Longwater Interchange eastbound. 

Please note that during Phase 3 and Phase 4, the road will be reduced to one lane during the day, and the speed limit reduced to 40mph for safety reasons.

Essex County Council are creating a new junction on the M11 to ease congestion and support economic and housing growth in Harlow and the surrounding area. The main construction started in summer 2020. More information can be found on Essex County Council’s website.

We’ll be carrying out bridge maintenance work on the M11 to replace the expansion joints and re-waterproof the junction 9 bridge. We will also be carrying out some resurfacing.

We plan to complete this work over 13 weeks from Thursday 16 September to Monday 13 December 2021, subject to weather conditions.

M11 junction 8 to 10 northbound full closure 

  • Friday 15 October - Monday 18 October – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)
  • Monday 18 October - full closure (11pm to 5am)
  • Friday 29 October - Monday 01 November – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)
  • Sunday 21 November – 9pm to 5am 
  • Friday 26 November to Monday 29 November – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)

Northbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 8 onto the A120, A10 and the A505 before re-joining M11 at junction 10. (Diagram 1)

M11 junction 9 to 10 northbound single lane closure 

  • Monday 4 October to Friday 15 October – 9pm to 5am   
  • Monday 15 November to Friday 19 November – 9pm to 5am   

Southbound closures

  • Sunday 17 October – 9pm to 5am

 

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 10 onto the A505, A10 and A120 to re-join the M11 at junction 8. (Diagram 1)

  • Friday 12 November to Monday 15 November – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)
  • Friday 19 November to Monday 22 November – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)
  • Friday 3 December to Monday 6 December – full weekend closure (9pm Friday to 5am Monday)

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 10 onto the A505, A11, to re-join the M11 at junction 9. (Diagram 2)

  • Monday 1 November to Friday 12 November – 9pm to 5am  
  • Monday 15 November to Friday 19 November – 9pm to 5am  

Diversions:

Northbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 8 onto the A120, A10 and the A505 and re-join the M11 at junction 10.

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the M11 at junction 10 onto the A505, A1301 and re-join the M11 from junction 9a to junction 9.

We plan to complete this work over six weeks, working between 10pm and 5am on weeknights and weekends.

Westbound road closures:

  • Weeknight closures - Monday 25 October to Friday 29 October - 10pm and 5am 
  • Weekend closure – Saturday 30 October 5am to Monday 1 November 5am

Diversion routes

  • Westbound traffic will be diverted via the North Orbital Road, A405, A41, Two Waters Road, St Albans Road, Breakspear Way before joining the M1.
