We’ll be carrying out essential maintenance work on the A12 between junction 12 and junction 16. We will replace the existing drains in the central reservation and the verges, in both directions along the A12 between junctions 12 and 16.

We will be closing the A12 northbound between junction 12 and junction 16 on Monday 12 April, Thursday 15 April to Friday 16 April and Monday 19 April to Friday 30 April.

Diversions

Northbound closure

Traffic will leave the A12 at junction 12 along B1002, cross the A12 at junction 15, join the A414/ London Road/ Princes Road/ Essex Yeomanry Way and Southend Road before re-joining the A12 at junction 17.

Southbound closure

Traffic will be diverted off the A12 at junction 17 to follow the A414 / Southend Road/ Essex Yeomanry Way/ Princes Road/ London Road, cross the A12 at junction 15 to join the B1002 and re-join the A12 at junction 12.

The A12 will be closed southbound between junction 16 and junction 12 on Tuesday 13 and Wednesday 14 April an Monday 3 May to Friday 14 May.

We’ll carry out essential work to the A14 junction 37 / A142 bridge. Work includes replacing the existing joints and bearings, installing a new drainage system and filter drains, replacing safety barriers on all approaches to the bridge, installing new bridge parapets and resurfacing.

The following closures will be in place:

A142 Fordham Road (the road above the A14 at junction 37)

During these closures the slip roads at this junction will remain open.

Weeknight closures (8pm to 6am)

  • Monday 29 March to Wednesday 31 March

Full weekend closures

We will also need to close the A142 Fordham Road for two full weekends from 8pm Friday to 6am Monday.

  • Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May
  • Friday 7 May to Monday 10 May

Diversion route

Traffic travelling southbound along the A142 Fordham Road and wanting to cross the bridge at junction 37 will be diverted onto the A14 eastbound to junction 38, along the A11 northbound to the B1085, return southbound on the A11 and back onto the A14 at junction 38, before re-joining the A142 Fordham Road at junction 37. 

Traffic travelling northbound along the A142 Fordham Road and wanting to cross the bridge at junction 37 will be diverted onto the A14 westbound to junction 35 and return on the A14 eastbound to re-join the A142 Fordham Road at junction 37.

A142 right turn onto the A14 junction 37 entry slip roads

Traffic will be unable to use the dedicated right turn lane from the A142 Fordham Road onto the A14 eastbound and westbound entry slip roads.

Diversion route

A142 northbound traffic wanting to use the right turn lane onto the A14 eastbound entry slip road will be
diverted to the Landwane Road Roundabout and return along the A142 southbound, to use the A14 eastbound entry slip. 

A142 southbound traffic wanting to use the right turn access onto the A14 westbound entry slip road will be diverted to Studlands Park Avenue Roundabout and return along the A142 northbound, to use the A14
westbound entry slip. 

A14 between the entry and exit slip roads at junction 37

Eastbound and westbound closure

  • Monday 15 March to Sunday 28 March (including both weekends)
  • Monday 12 April to Sunday 18 April (including the weekend)

Eastbound closure

  • Sunday 28 February

Westbound closure

Diversion route

Traffic will be diverted off the A14 at junction 37 via the exit slip road to return onto the A14 via the entry slip.

We will be carrying out essential resurfacing and the renewal of road markings and studs.

A47 North Burlingham to A47 New Road/ A1064 Roundabout in both directions for 2 weeks.

Diversions

Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Trowse Newton via the A146 to Gillingham to then follow the A143 to Beccles before re-joining the A47 at the Shrublands Way junction. The westbound diversion is the same but in reverse.

 

We will be carrying out essential resurfacing and the renewal of road markings and studs.

A47 Links Road Roundabout to A47 Blundeston Road Roundabout in both directions, starting Monday 12 April to Friday 4 June.

Diversions

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 Links Road Roundabout via the B1534/ Beaufort Way. Then follow the A143 to Gillingham before joining the A146 towards Lowestoft, then the A1117 before re-joining the A47 at Blundeston Road Roundabout.The northbound diversion is the same as above but in reverse.

 

We will carry out works start to renew the road markings between M1 junction 8 to junction 9 from Monday 13 July to Friday 7 August. These works will be carried out under lane closures and split into the following phases:

  • M1 junction 6a to junction 8 lane closures (Monday 13 July to Friday 24 July)
  • M1 junction 8 to junction 9 lane closures (Monday 27 July to Friday 7 August)

There may be a requirement to close the northbound exit or entry slips at junction 6a, junction 8 or junction and junction 9. If this is the case, traffic will be diverted to the next junction on the M1 and back down again.

We are commencing works to replace bridge joints at the M11 Frogge Street Bridge. The works will be completed between Thursday 16 July and Monday 27 July working between 9pm and 5am on week days and 24/7 on both weekends.

These works will be split into the following phases:

  • M11 southbound between junction 9a and junction 9 full closure (Thursday July 16 overnight, and then Friday 17 July to Monday 20 July, 24/7 closure)

Traffic will be diverted along the M11 towards junction 10, exiting at the A505 junction and continuing on the A505, before joining the A11.

  • M11 northbound between junction 9 and junction 9a full closure (Thursday July 23 overnight, and then Friday July 24 to Monday 27 July, 24/7 closure)

Traffic will be diverted along the A11, exiting on to the A505 junction and continuing on the A505, before joining the M11 at junction 10.

Essex County Council are creating a new junction on the M11 to ease congestion and support economic and housing growth in Harlow and the surrounding area. The main construction is due to start in summer 2020. More information can be found on Essex County Council’s website.

Maintenance works to include:

  • renewal of road markings at junctions 9 Newport Pagnell and A11 Four Went Ways interchange
  • safety barrier renewals M11 junctions 9 to 10
  • electrical works A11
  • noise fencing repairs at junction 9 to 8 Wendens Ambo
