M20 Replacement of East Street Footbridge

We will be carrying out work to replace the previously demolished East Street footbridge with a new footbridge, as well as a new pedestrian access ramp on the southern side of the bridge.

    Closures due as work gets under way

    We’ll be starting work on 9 August 2020, with work due to be completed in January 2021. We will be closing lane one on both sides of the M20 for the duration of the project, with a reduced lane widths and a 50mph speed limit in place at all times.

    The M20 London-bound carriageway will be closed between junctions 4 and 3 overnight on Sunday 9 and Monday 10 August from 8pm-6am to put out the traffic management.

    Lane one of the M20 London-bound carriageway will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place from Tuesday 11 August 2020 to end of January 2021.

    The M20 coast-bound carriageway will be closed between junctions 3 and 4 on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October from 8pm -6am to put out traffic management.

    Lane one of the M20 coast-bound carriageway will be closed and a 50mph speed limit will be in place from Thursday 8 October 2020 to end of January 2021.

    We will need to close the M20 in both directions between junctions 3 and 4 for a full weekend to lift the footbridge into place. Dates for this closure are to be confirmed and will be announced in due course.

Overview

Back in August 2016 East Street Foot Bridge over the M20 near Addington was struck by a lorry causing it to collapse. We will be replacing the footbridge to connect to communities.

The aim of the scheme is to improve pedestrian connection.
