Launch of The Thames Estuary

Action plan ‘The Green Blue’ launches, a key step in fulfilling the potential of east London, north Kent, south Essex and the Thames itself.

On 21 July, the Thames Estuary Growth Board, led by Envoy Kate Willard, launched their action plan ‘The Green Blue’. The plan is a key step in fulfilling the potential of this vital growth corridor – comprised of east London, north Kent, south Essex and the Thames itself.

The Thames Estuary is backed by the Government as the UK’s biggest growth opportunity. With the potential to create 1.5million jobs and add value of up to £115bn to the nation’s economy, it is integral to growth and post-Covid recovery.

The Lower Thames Crossing is one of the key infrastructure projects in the Thames Estuary. The project is part of the biggest investment in the country’s road network for a generation. It will boost local, regional and national economies, while offering new connections, better journeys and fewer delays.

We are very excited to continue working with the Thames Estuary Growth Board, other key stakeholders such as the South East Local Enterprise Partnership, and also local communities, to help shape and deliver transformative change in the Thames Estuary.

Working with these key stakeholders will also ensure we are joined up with other major projects in the region. This will be especially important when the Lower Thames Crossing and other projects are built, following planning consent. Working together we can improve connectivity, drive growth, and create opportunities for skills and employment in the Thames Estuary.
